We love seeing companies get creative with their holiday celebrations. Even with all that is going on, we have been amazed by the perseverance of customers, driven to keep with their longstanding traditions of recognizing employees and families for their efforts throughout the year.

While it doesn’t look or feel the same with restrictions, it is still possible to deliver season’s greetings. Employers are providing individual meals to their staff, neighbors are sending food to healthcare heroes on the front line, and the Salvation Army is quietly providing a backbone of support throughout the metropolitan St. Louis and surrounding areas.

Three Examples

1. The Salvation Army

On Thursday, March 21st, Russo Catering met with the Salvation Army at their Midland Headquarters location. We had just begun to feel the impact of closing and were losing events at an alarming pace.

Martin Rueter, the Director of Disaster services for the Greater St. Louis area, advised that they were preparing an extraordinary level of food assistance and asked us to begin scaling for operations. One of the first things we did was clean out the coolers! On April 10th we distributed 1200 meals to kids in need of meals that were no longer available to them through their school lunch programs.

The very next day, we embarked on a partnership that has provided daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Seven days a week, including holidays, the Salvation Army has been here to pick up  in excess of 12,000 meals and deliver them to neighbors in need of their services.

We can all help them continue their mission with the Virtual Red Kettle Campaign

2. Dinner for 7000+ Employees

The annual Holiday Party was in jeopardy of being cancelled when we received a call asking, “ would it be possible to…?”

After careful coordination and planning, Russo’s will be delivering over 7000 meals to 99 locations throughout the area, over the course of ten days.

3. Virtual Charcuterie is the Rubik’s Cube of 2020

Maybe because it’s fun to say? The traditional Italian favorite has caught fire and we are seeing record numbers of prosciutto, capocollo, and soppressata come through our kitchen this year.

Especially popular with the virtual event planners, we have provided charcuterie to accommodate anywhere from an individual box to platters for 10 guests.

In October, we catered an event that was originally planned for in-person attendance at the History Museum. Forced to pivot, they decided to make it a virtual event that would include a box of charcuterie and an online presentation of Beyond the Ballot https://mohistory.org/exhibits/beyond-the-ballot. Originally limited to the space requirements, they exceeded the number of attendees originally planned as the online change opened the program up to all that were interested!
